What is ChinaTripTop's Privacy Policy?

Last updated: June 3, 2026

At ChinaTripTop, we believe that travel information should be transparent, actionable, and privacy-first. This document outlines our terms of service, how we handle your data, and our relationship with third-party providers.

Dual-Brand Framework: ChinaTripTop & ViaCHN

Our platform operates under a dual-brand strategy. ChinaTripTop represents this website, encompassing all published travel content, guides, and dynamic web-based tools (including our Trip Binder compiler, local transit widgets, and transaction checkout systems). ViaCHN represents our standalone mobile applications platform, currently in the planning stages, designed to offer native offline travel tools. References in this policy to "we," "us," or "our platform" cover both ChinaTripTop (active web platform) and ViaCHN (upcoming mobile applications).

1Terms of Service

By using ChinaTripTop, you acknowledge that while we strive for 100% accuracy, travel policies in China (visas, payments, navigation) change rapidly. Our content is provided for informational purposes only. Verification of current laws and requirements with official government sources remains the responsibility of the traveler.

2Privacy & Data Collection

We have a strictly minimal approach to your personal information:

  • Standard Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand basic traffic patterns (which pages are popular). This data is anonymized and does not identify you personally.
  • Feedback Data: If you choose to leave feedback on our guides, we require a name and provide an optional email field. The name is used solely to distinguish between different users and their suggestions; you are welcome to use a pseudonym or nickname rather than your legal name. The optional email is only used if you wish for us to respond directly to your inquiry.
  • Trip Planner & Personalization Profiles: When you use our Trip Binder feature to compile customized travel guides and PDFs, we temporarily store your custom travel details, itinerary selections, and dietary requirements (allergy checklists). This data is tied strictly to unique transaction or configuration IDs and is not linked to any personal user accounts.
  • No Tracking: Beyond the above, we do not track your location, browsing history across other sites, or personal identity.

3External Links, Payment Partners & Third Parties

We partner with Stripe to handle payment processing for Trip Binder upgrades. When checking out, your payment information (such as credit card details, billing address, and transaction amount) is collected and processed directly by Stripe on their secure servers. ChinaTripTop does not store or process your financial card credentials locally.

Important Notice:

ChinaTripTop contains links to external services (Booking.com, Trip.com, VPN providers, etc.) and uses Stripe for payments. Once you leave our domain or interact with payment portals, you are subject to the privacy policies of those third parties. We are not responsible for the data collection practices of external sites. Sharing your personal or payment information on linked platforms is done at your own risk.

4Cookies, Local Caching & Trip Planner States

Our website uses browser local storage and temporary server-side storage to deliver core functional features of the platform.

Essential Functionality Caching: When planning a trip, your selected guides and personalization parameters are stored in your browser's local storage so that your configurations persist during edits. These caches are strictly functional, completely local, and are not shared with third-party tracking networks.

Essential Analytics: We consider Google Analytics an essential service for the ongoing maintenance of ChinaTripTop. It allows us to see which guides are helping travelers and which ones need updating. This data is anonymized and doesn't identify you personally. Because this data is vital to keeping our independent guides free and accurate, it is enabled by default.

Management: You can clear your browser's cache, local storage, or disable cookies through your browser settings (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) at any time. Doing so will reset your active Trip Binder selections but will not disrupt your overall access to ChinaTripTop guides.

5Data Retention & Cloudflare R2 Storage

To generate personalized Trip PDF guides and connect securely with our companion ChinaTripTop mobile application ecosystem, configuration profiles are stored on Cloudflare R2 servers:

  • Pending / Unpurchased Profiles: Configuration files created but not finalized via Stripe payment are ephemerally held and automatically deleted from our servers within **24 hours**.
  • Completed Trip Profiles: Fully compiled travel configurations, itineraries, and dietary cards are retained securely for up to **90 days** from creation to ensure travelers can download, print, or synchronize them to their mobile devices while traveling. After this 90-day window, the configuration files are permanently purged from our servers.

6Affiliate Disclosure

To keep ChinaTripTop a free resource for all travelers, we may participate in affiliate programs. If you click on a link to a recommended service and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission. This comes at **no extra cost to you** and does not influence our editorial independence. We only link to services we have personally tested or believe are genuinely useful.
